Sorry I’ve been a little behind on my posts lately….
It’s Spring! Declutter season! That means revisiting every room, every closet, every cabinet, every nook, every cranny, and finding what (and what does not) spark joy. Not surprising, spring clean up also inevitably means the blog has been put on the back burner for the last little while. However, I’m not about to blame it completely on my obsession for all that is Marie Kondo, I’m going to blame at least 38% of my blog neglect, on this guy….
#TBT to the early days with my little grey-eyed bunny when he would just lie there cooing and snoozing while I caught up on missed sleep and missed texts.
He is now a brown-eyed monkey that is a pro at getting into things at lightening speed. that means it’s time to baby proof the heck outta the house. While I’m at it, why not jump on the Tidying Up bandwagon and declutter until there’s nothing left to declutter? As always, I get sucked into new projects and new ideas with every pile I go through. Should I sell it? Should I donate it? Should I recycle it? Should I trash it? Should I keep it and make something out of it? This is where the KonMari Method has been wonderful because with every item I have actually paused to ask myself “does this actually bring me joy?” And luckily after a couple (hundred) “thank yous” and “it’s time to let it go” I was able to dig into this declutter plan of mine and rid of what seemed like a HUGE weight off not only my shoulders, but on our entire household’s. Can a home actually feel lighter?
Why yes, it can. And it does.
This post will not highlight what I did exactly to declutter my home, or any of the changes I’ve made to Little Mama‘s and Little Man‘s spaces because a) I’m not done yet – standby, it’s coming… b) I’m still in the crux of transporting the victims of my declutter bonanza (ie: the wonderful items that no longer spark joy) out of my house, and, c) that’s not exactly the point of this post.
I’m really just checking in to say – the Balinos are on a much needed hiatus from posting anything at this point, until we work through our items and simplify. As you may not have already seen, we went from drab to fab and dark to spark, in our family room prior to baby arriving, and shockingly – not much has changed from it except a couple balls, a ball throwing baby, and some stuffies. We’ve kept things status quo in the main family room – but much of the ripping-at-the-seams are happening in the bedrooms, the kitchen, and the playroom. This means out with the old, and please, NO. MORE. NEW.
This year is going to be a year of simplifying, keeping things clean, bright, and minimal. The whole point of decluttering our home is to declutter our minds. We can barely get through our hallways without bumping into an extra jumper, a pile of dirty laundry, an extra human, and his/her plethora of toys. It’s wonderful chaos and we embrace it with all our might (as you know, it wasn’t easy to get to this place). But we were looking for a way to free ourselves of the distraction of said chaos so we can focus on the two little beings in front of us. As of a month ago, I could barely find them in the midst of our clutter.
Cut to March/April and the perfect amount of caffeine to get us through it – here we are, feeling free, in our declutter daze, enjoying the space and simplicity of our home. I 1000% believe that every home needs a declutter review at least once every year – if not every few seasons. There is no greater joy than looking around your sanctuary and feeling the lightness of less clutter and less options (my clothing choices have gone from oh-my-gawd-I-have-nothing-to-wear-cuz-I-think-my-closet-has-just-exploded to wham bam that romper’s my jam).
So forgive me, for my seemingly lackadaisical ways as far as my blog and social media is concerned. I am trying to set the tone for a simpler lifestyle, simpler household, and a simpler way of working through the madness of work/family balance. I mean, do I really need 3 laptops, and 4 different places to work? More of that on a later post.
Basically – I’m imploring you, my sassy sisters reading this post – try getting rid of the stuff that’s weighing you down this spring. Declutter days doesn’t necessarily mean not having a life outside of the garbage bags you’re filling, but it could mean a few days of mere focus. I know it’s a trendy statement “to spark joy” but there’s a reason why the transformation has taken place in tens of thousands of homes to date. Getting rid of the old and making space for a renewed atmosphere really does just that – it sparks joy. Who doesn’t want that?
So while I continue sparking my joy while I drop off donations and sort through the last few piles, here are more Easter Bunny photos to tide you over. He might not seem like it, but he’s all about sparking joy!
I think I’ll keep him. 🙂
(P.S. This adorbs Bunny outfit def Sparks joy, so we’re keeping it too…)
