DIY Jessie Toy Story Party FOOD :: On a Budget

What’s a party without food, right? That’s our philosophy anyway. Even better, Toy Story Party Food! You can have all the decor and do all the preparation you want, but at the end of the day, those kids are looking for some good eats. Then again, if food isn’t top priority to the party planner, no judgement! It’s your party, and you’ll feed if you want to! If food isn’t on your radar, aside from cake and icecream, that’s okay! However, if food or food preparation is your cup of tea, like it is mine – keep reading. We have some fun ideas to share.

First, let me clear something up here. Anyone who knows me – knows that the last thing I can give advice on, is food, or preparation thereof.

Hence, Fashion blog. Not food blog.

So I’m going to stick with what I’m more comfortable sharing, and that’s about the presentation of food. Because, it’s all in the presentation, right? 

According to my always hungry (and potentially, malnurished) husband – not so much. But for all intents and purposes, we’re going to just say presentation does matter…. 

Enter – The Cake.

Yup. The cake. Isn’t it absolutely gorgeous? I can say this, because it was a much better alternative to hire someone else whose talents and skills in baking was very much reflective in their results. I mean, look at this piece of art?

Thanks to Belle’s Confections, we were able to take Jessie’s entire outfit from head to toe, and transform it into a 3 tier chocolate bonanza. After a few (zillion) hours scouring the interwebs, we decided to create our own look reflecting the key pieces in Jessie’s outfit. Of course this includes the everso intricate details of her shirt, her western buckle for Little Mama‘s name plate, and the cow print that drapes over her bright denim jeans. Believe it or not, we kept Jessie’s hat as a Rice krispie square rather than another layer of cake hidden under the red fondant, to keep things light and simple. After all, when it comes to Toy Story party food, it’s all about keeping it simple, right?

Well… in our case, not so much. 

But, I digress.  

Let’s talk about the candles. Where to put them? We opted to throw them onto one of our boot brownies (see, below…) and placed it next to the cake because we knew Little Mama would barely be able to reach the top tier. Whoops… we obviously didn’t factor in potential height challenges during our cake design planning. 

Just in case the glamour of the cake confuses you, we decided to bring out the personalized food tents, because you never know what questions may arise.

We wanted to introduce some of Jessie’s friends and allow them to help us with the food display. Tying them into the theme was easy and made for great conversation starters. And if you haven’t already noticed, when it comes Toy Story party food we’re all about word play and keeping in line with themes and colours. Food is no exception.

I suppose it wouldn’t be very responsible of me to not have a yummy tray of  vegetables as an option. Rex’s Fearless Fruits and Veggies added the perfect blend of colours (not to mention nutrients) to a party filled with fun… and sugar.

There’s a snake in my boot! Woody exclaims. Well – if the boot fits –

Throw in a gummy worm/snake into a plastic boot shot glass, much like these…

…pour in vanilla or chocolate pudding, and voila! A yummy, gummy snake safely makes its way into Woody’s boot!

Bullseye is Jessie’s most beloved sidekick so we simply could not forget a little western love for him. We made some sugar cookies shaped into western hats (ahem… I should say, Big Daddy pulled out some pretty mad cookie-making skills out of his hat), while Auntie Amber Dawn, who pretty much bakes with her eyes closed, made some delicious boot shaped brownies. Both were gobbled right up by the crowds, because who doesn’t like cookies and brownies?

Buzz spread himself out a little bit more than the others. I mean, he is the Intergalactic Space Ranger working for Star Command, after all.  Of course in this part of the galaxy, Star Command is led by none other than Little Mama herself, which pretty much means – Alien Pops all around! 

As the alien pops were taken over within mere minutes by the hungry mini mortals, thank goodness Hamm the Pig made an appearance in the form of Vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet. All three pops magically created by Belle’s Confections. Once again, why work hard, when you can support a local business who has the talent and gumption to do it for you? 

Toy Story party food takes some time and patience, so I called in the troops. With the help of my cousin assistants and Little Mama herself, we whipped up a couple trays of PB & J sandwiches cut into the shapes of clouds to represent Andy’s room – the very room where Toy Story took place. If it were up to Little Mama, she would invite the world to her birthday party. That’s not too far of a stretch, especially since all baby siblings were invited. How do we keep their tummies nice and full? Don’t fret, Big Baby made sure she kept the tiniest of sheriffs happy with some baby grub. We put out a red pail, filled it with cloths, topped off with natural raffia paper shred, and offered some fruit and veggie squeeze bottles – just for the babies. 

Mr. & Mrs. Potatohead are major partygoers so we would be remiss to not include them. Potato chips, it is! We used our homemade snack holders and filled them to the brim. With all the sweetness going on at this party, we needed to throw in some salt! Yum!

Speaking of salt – you can’t get anymore salty than a hotdog. Yes, I know – how incredibly irresponsible of me to include hotdogs in our already over saturated menu. But we just couldn’t leave Slinky Dog out. Cut in half, and distributed to only the kids who wanted it – Slinky dog‘s job was done. 

Don’t forget the personalized bottles… 

We were much too busy enjoying the eats to take a photo of the pizza, but we all know what pizza looks like, just imagine square shaped mini pizzas spread along the base of Buzz’s spaceship (or whatever this is supposed to be… sorry – I’m not much of a NASA expert). Do you see it now? Hello Pizza Planet.

Toy Story party food isn’t always just about the kids, or the food… I mean, we couldn’t forget the Big Sheriffs now, could we? With all their hard work in keeping up with the excitable sheriffs before, during, and after the party, we felt they deserved some fun too. Yay, for some well deserved bubbly! Okay, so it was only “pretend” alcohol… but at least it was the one thing meant only for the Big Sheriffs over the legal age of 8. 🙂 

We pulled out the fancy plastic wine glasses from Oriental Trading company for added effect.  

We never like to leave anyone out, if we can help it. As Little Bo Peep suggests, we could all use a dish or two that’s gluten free. Don’t our guts deserve it? To be honest though, this wasn’t as much a case of proactive awareness, as it was to accommodate our gluten sensitive buddies. In this particular case, Little Bo Peep lost her gluten, but by no means, is she in any rush to find it. 

I would be remiss to leave out the most important fuel for any body to function at a 5 year old’s party. Water! 

We slapped on some Cow Print Party Tape, made it personal, and kept our thirsty mini sheriffs well hydrated. 

When we think of Toy Story Party food, the image of a satiated, blissful, little lady in western gear pops up in my mind. Looking back at all the little details that went into planning this Toy Story party food menu, I may feel a mild sensation of unrelenting exhaustion, but then I see how much joy it brings to my little cowgirl, and I think…

Yup. WORTH. IT.
