Remembrance Day & Veterans Day :: Remembering Those Who Served

Today is not just a school day off for little mama, or a work day off for mommy and daddy. It’s the day we honor those precious lives, both past and present, who served our country – to protect our freedom.

Today, I teach my little one the true meaning of this significant day. Do your little ones understand the meaning of Remembrance Day or Veterans Day?

My little ones are just beginning to understand what Remembrance Day is all about. I have taught them it is about respecting what others have and are continuing to do for our country, as well as to think about those who have to live with the aftermath of these conflicts. I think it will take a few years for them to really grasp what the day is all about (they are 4 and 3 years-old), but they got an idea of it today.

Our kids learned a lot in school and through the assemblies. As it’s not a stat holiday here, we didn’t get to attend any ceremonies.

I think this is the first year my youngest really understood what it was all about. It is hard when they are so young.

I always discuss Remembrance Day with my students and my own kids. They understand that so many brave people served our country to make it what it is today. It is a very special and important day.
