We have always enjoyed our experience at the petitePARADE, in collaboration with Vogue Bambini, showcasing some of the most luxurious brands in Children’s fashion, while celebrating all that is whimsical, and all that is kid. This past 6th season, held on March 8th, 2014 in the Chelsea District of beautiful New York City, proved to be no exception. From the likes of MLB sports to luxury pieces cascading the not-so-petite runway, the parade ranged from couture to good ol’ fashioned fun.
Each show began with an introduction by NY’s stylin’ duo MC’s, Tristin & Tyler.
… and of course, I had to get in on the action as well…
One would never know that this was petitePARADE‘s first sports-themed show – as the spirit was contagious, the runway was energetic, and the music was enough to get the folks behind the camera lens up on their feet ready to join in on the fun.
We had a chance to meet with the brains behind CCandy, Amber Sabathia, wife of NY Yankees’ pitcher CC Sabathia, – stating that she was “so excited that CCandy is the first sports licensing clothing line to rock the runway for Kids Fashion Week”. And rock it, they did!
With the bright and bold colors mixed with highly graphic sensibilities, this line, produced in collaboration with Outerstuff and MLB, hit a stylin’ homerun down this season’s runway show.
We were absolutely thrilled to see Heajung, designer of IMOGA back on the petitePARADE runway with her playful and whimsical designs and prints. The styles for Autumn/Winter 2014 were unique yet comfortable, curious yet sophisticated, timeless yet keeping true to trend.
This design, in particular had me squirming in the front seat. I was thrilled to get up close and personal with this metallic one piece, trimmed with faux fur awesomeness. And don’t even get me started with the pockets!
The high energy music broke the awe-struck silence as San Francisco-based Alivia Simone‘s FW2014 collection made its way down the runway. It was a stunning debut of a sophisticated line made up of textures inspired by modern art. This delightful mother-daughter team put their creative minds together along with their love for leather, metallic jacquard and silk fabrics, and came up with this traffic-stopping Fall and Holiday collection.
We just about lost our minds with the flirty silhouettes of luminous peplum that graced the runway.
The evening shows began with the luxurious line that always leaves us wanting more – Mischka Aoki. Swarovski Crystals adorned the looks, along with a careful selection of fine fabrics. We were blown away by the pairing of Dr. Martens‘ new kids line, adding that extra surprising dimension to an already cutting-edge ensemble.
Here are some of the elegant pieces from Mischka Aoki, that left us breathless.
Not a soul in the room could have been prepared for what came next. Bonnie Young continues to add an element of surprise with her plaids, metallics, tweeds, geometrics and faux fur. Even a metallic track suit and a boy’s kilt was spotted coming down kiddie runway. The orchestration of oohs and ahhs from the supporters and press could have been heard a mile away.
Ms. Young made a short appearance with her kids and models – the very people that continue to inspire her stunning line.
This ensemble will definitely be the talk of kid’s fashion for season’s to come.
Meanwhile, the stylish buzz continued behind the curtains. We were privy to the talents of photographer, Lee Clower as he was set up post-runway backstage. Paul Mitchell, under the direction of celeb stylist, Jemma Muradian performed hair magic, while make-up artist, Yuko Mizuno and her team, added finishing touches to the already-flawless faces. While VIP front-row seats were filled with enthusiastic stylish minis – a mini-photographer was spotted doing her thing like a pro.
And what’s a kid’s fashion event without some good eats and activities to get the kids’ creative juices flowing? From the specialty teas catered by Press Tea and their organic selection of yummy eats and savory pastries, to the deelish green juices offered by the genius that is Green Mustache, to the artistry of 1500 petitePARADE cupcakes created with love by none other than Baked by Melissa – all tummies were kept satiated. Plush toys, tees, crafts and even sneakers were offered for coloring and creative illustration, during the official workshop sponsored by milkPOP. Definitely a hit with the mini artistes.
And as an added bonus to an already successful and stylin’ show, Toddlewood made their grand entrance followed immediately by a Hollywood-esque paparazzi moment. Lucky for me, I was seated right in front of all fabulousness. Spotted, were the famous fab minis of Cyndi Lauper, Kelly Osbourne, Lupita Nyong’o, Pharell Williams, and Taylor Swift.
Once again, I had to get in on the mini Hollywood action as well. Enjoyed a sweet moment with darling model and daughter of Sean “P Diddy”, little Chance Combs, along with a couple other sweethearts off runway.
But this entire event could not have been possible without the teamwork and efforts by team petitePARADE.
Enjoy some of these fab AW2014 looks in action!
