With Canada Day and the 4th of July around the corner (yes, we celebrate both), our family is always on the hunt for long weekend family fun.
Don’t get me wrong – we enjoy our share of lazy Sundays at home, but sometimes it does the soul (and the body) some good when we get out and get active. Even better, as a family.
Here are the 5 things we love to do during the long weekend as a family – or any weekend for that matter…
#5FAVES :: 5 IDEAS FOR LONG WEEKEND FAMILY FUN
1:: LONG WEEKEND FAMILY FUN IDEAS WE LOVE – We Explore
Shocker right? We are a family that talks about the latest trends, fun accessories, and the go-to shops for the cutest threads. But when we’re “off duty”, we really take this opportunity to hit the reset button. And that means getting back to to the basics. Getting back to the good stuff. We absolutely love exploring the wonders of nature – analyzing the variety of textures, colors, and ocean life. Though we often make forts out of twigs, we ensure we leave most of what we find untouched. Our biggest mantra, especially with our very curious monkey is, leave nature with nature. Our discoveries are almost always awe-inspiring, and as a family, we learn so much about this beautiful world around us and each other.
2:: LONG WEEKEND FAMILY FUN IDEAS WE LOVE – Go to Every Recommended Ice Cream Parlour in the city. And Eat it…
Indulgent I know. But nothing brings our Little Mama (and therefore, our family) more joy than a good ol’ fashioned scoop of awesomeness.
We like to test out the creamy waters before plunging into our summer weekends of unadulterated ice-cream bliss. Plus, there’s nothing wrong with adding a little variety into our lives. So ice-cream shop hopping, here we come! No shame.
3 :: LONG WEEKEND FAMILY FUN IDEAS WE LOVE – Take the Wheels Out for a Spin
Little Mama loves her wheels. Whether she takes her stroller for a spin around the neighbourhood, or her bike down a paved path outside of the city, or bumping into someone else’s wheels and claiming it as her own. Riding around is always so much fun for our active little 5 year old, which in turn becomes such a fun family activity for mommy and Big Daddy. Up next, the family tandem. #familygoals
4 :: LONG WEEKEND FAMILY FUN IDEAS WE LOVE – Check out the City Events and Go!
From tea parties to town fairs, we are all about getting out of the house and having some family fun. We love the rides, the games (and prizes), the live music and of course, the treats (sno-cones, ice-cream, cotton candy, oh my!). But what we love the most is spending the time together, enjoying each other’s company. All it took was access to a city event calendar, and the willingness to fight the crowds and join in on the fun.
We are especially fond of vintage fairs and car shows. The kind of event that both Big Daddy and Little Mama can enjoy a good dose of fun times.
5 :: LONG WEEKEND FAMILY FUN IDEAS WE LOVE – Go Glamping! (or camping!)
A couple weekends ago, we tagged along with some camping pro family friends and disconnected for a couple days. It was absolutely amazing. We played extreme bocce (apparently my aim leaves much to be desired), stayed up late around the fire laughing ourselves into a frenzy, and feasted on an indefinite amount of insanely delicious bbq.
It was simple, it was freeing, and it was necessary. Little Mama was just as thrilled eating out of little-mama-sized-cereal bowls while soaking in the fresh smells of nature. She enjoyed being imaginative and trekking through the forest with no time constraints, and she especially loved her first adventure in a tent.
Our family couldn’t help but bond and get to know one another in a deeper and meaningful way. We weren’t distracted by the notification alerts, texts and emails to respond to, and negative energy. It was all good, and it was everything we imagined family camping would be.
Our next plan is to rent out a chalet at a historical landmark in the city. This takes glamping to a whole other level.
BONUS :: LONG WEEKEND FAMILY FUN IDEAS WE LOVE – Watch the Sunset and… Exhale
We are so blessed to be surrounded by water, so we never pass up a chance to spend some quality moments watching the sun setting over the ocean as a family. It’s breathtaking. Even better, when we can share it with cousins and close family friends. The serenity and peace that we soak in during moments like this remind us how blessed we are to have one another. With life being so hectic, and disappointments coming at us from every angle, we absolutely welcome this beauty and make it a part of our many special family moments.
