Early learning and purposeful play
S2 EPISODE 002 :: Are you a parent of a small-scale Smallie? You know – those snack-obsessed sponges that ask a ton of questions, soak up everything they see and hear, and have the uncanny ability to melt and break your heart all at the same time? Yes, I’m talking about those precious bundles of joy that leap into toddlerville at lightening speed, right into the chaotic and exciting world of preschool. And as much as you love sporting superhero masks or having tea parties with your tiny little bestie, are there are times that you wonder – am I setting this tiny Einstein up for success? Am I ruining them? Are they learning enough? Am I killing their chance of being the best little humans they are destined to be?
Perhaps, you sit on the other end of the smallie spectrum. You’ve read all the books, you’ve done all the things, and as far as you know, your kids are gonna be just fine. But what about YOU? You creative-tik-tok-sensory-bin-machine goddess? Are you consumed by the development and early learning of your kids, their needs, and their spongy young brains – leaving you running on empty? Are your days spent doom-scrolling the fabulous lives of other parents who seem to have more time for themselves? And once you’ve reached your doom scrolling limit, you start Pinterest-hopping for more ideas on how to stimulate your kids’ brains while on the verge of tears, nursing a cold cup of coffee that’s been nuked 10 times over?
Friend – I’ve entertained both sides of parenting in the early learning years, and trust me when I say… Early Bird’s got you covered!
I am so thrilled to introduce our very first guest on Sass & Small Talk. Knowledgeable, creative, and driven by passion, Renée Jordan of Early Bird, is my absolute go-to when it comes to:
- early learning play based activities
- whole child focus
- understanding the basic building blocks of neurodevelopmental constructs (don’t worry – Renée will be enlightening us with what this actually means)
- empowering children with options and independent play
- low cost ideas with high return
and most importantly,
- the tried and true way for exhausted mamas to finally enjoy that hot cup of coffee at its onset (again, what the heck does that mean?).
Early Bird is a membership/platform/subscription of sorts, that takes the burden off parents when it comes to activity planning for our tiny humans, decision-making overwhelm, and putting an end to the endless scouring of Pinterest and TikTok. The goal of Early Bird is to use a blended approach to develop the whole child through purposeful play, in preparation for the learning years ahead. Listen to this episode, to get the scoop on how, in as little as 10 minutes, this platform can actually live up to its mission of setting up smallies for success, while mama can enjoy a little time for herself. Just CLICK… and GO.
I know… my head exploded too.

I wished the same thing! I get a do over with my second – so I’m glad about that. But yes – wouldn’t it have been perfect to have it with our older kids as preschoolers.

Such great info! It is amazing what kids are able to pick up at such a young age, ever since my kids were tiny I always read to them and did things like pointing out colors and shapes.
