We were privileged to attend Kid’s Fashion Week in New York City at the petitePARADE, in collaboration with Vogue Bambini this past weekend. To say it was fun-filled, exhilarating, highly spirited, colorful, and all around amazing – is an understatement. We were blown away by the shows, the runway styling, and of course the overall looks representing the pre-fall and Autumn/Winter collections of 2013. Yes – we are already looking into next year’s winter with this winter still going strong, but that’s what fashion biz is all about, isn’t it? Being 10 runway steps ahead of the game.
And 10 steps ahead, they were. Diesel Kid that is…
Burning rubber, from start to finish, Diesel Kid breaks the ice with some slick breakin’ be-boy moves…
… ending on a sweet note of oversized lollipops that only a kid could love. (And their mamas, of course – present company included).
The looks ranged from biker to rocker with the use of deep tones, metallic touches, washed down denims, and raw heathered tops coordinating with unexpected lines and patterns.
Chic looks that involved pops of coral, color blocking, slim fit, and slight distressed details. We absolutely loved the military-inspired embellishments in some of the girls’ tops and jackets.
As flawless as these kids were, the glam squad of petitePARADE brought them from oh baby, to wadda-babe status! Megan Gage of Hot Tot and her team of hair pros killed it with haute dus for the boos, and Patricia Dente Haimes of Little BU, polished their little nails with the hottest hues of the season. More on the glam squad on a separate post – so stand by. We HEART the heart behind the scenes – the very people that made the show even more spectacular.
We had a nice chat with Germano Ferraro who flew in from Italy to attend the event among the Diesel Kid entourage. He was quite taken by the charming fashion muse in my arms. LD, on the other hand, was rather skeptical at first, but I have reduced it to the fact that the dim lighting caused by her oh-so-necessary sunglasses (please note: we were indoors!! Don’t ask me – ask the diva…) blinded her perception of who this very nice gentleman really was.
Big Daddy and I enjoyed the flipbook booth sponsored by Diesel, where we created a multi page animation of his undying love for his family, which immediately animated itself to reveal his real thoughts on the two women in his life.
Here’s a look at some of the pieces in motion, including some backstage fun before the show started. There are also a few great looks from the pre-fall collection (you definitely cannot miss the hints of neon that graced the runway). Sometimes when you witness a production this great, it’s easy to forget that these kids are still… well… kids. Which is how Diesel Kid infiltrates the kids fashion scene with a vengeance – by celebrating them exactly the way they are – as kids!
These runway pros were as swag as they looked throughout – and as petite as they were! LD decided it wasn’t enough to just sit in the front row and merely observe such an event – she just had to participate in the parade herself. Not bad for someone who is just barely getting the hang of walking.
Stylishly yours,
