So I’m going to get real with you. As thrilled as I am to be at this point in my pregnancy, I am not feeling so cute in the third trimester. Every morning, I painstakingly roll out of bed with the aches and pains of carpal tunnel and swollen tootsies, a full bladder that has little regard for my lack of speed, and a big ol’ belly that just keeps knocking into things. Do I love the aches and pains? Not really. Do I love what it all stands for – oh HECK yeah.
It’s been a long road to get here, and I’m tired of giving into my feelings of defeat. I have literally surrendered to my aches and pains and have allowed myself to forget about the sassy upbeat mama who fought so darn hard to have this in the first place.
So I decided to get cute in the third trimester.
WAY easier said than done, but all it took was a very special occasion to catapult my lazy ways into a whole new outlook.
Baby Shower time! Who would have thought that I would actually be saying these words? It’s been a long time coming, as many of you know. This wasn’t the easiest plan for my girlfriends to come up with either. They took the abuse of resistance, weeks and weeks of kicking and screaming – and I’m not talking about the little guy in my belly. It was me… and my pride. I read virtually everywhere that it was a no-no to agree to a second baby shower. Let alone, for my 11th. Yes, this is my 11th – I’ve been pregnant a couple handful of times, and only one came to be. Now I’m 35 weeks pregnant and ready to have my happy and healthy baby boy in a few weeks. So my friends made the executive decision to throw me a baby shower, whether I was on board or not. I’m glad I finally gave in and listened to them, as it turned out to be one of the most beautiful celebrations of my life. Standby for that post coming soon.
For now – the big question was… what to wear? How am I supposed to feel cute in the third trimester, when I feel far from it?
When PinkBlush came into my radar, I was immediately mesmerized. The variety of styles was what really got me. However, as over-the-moon in love I have been with my belly and kicking baby inside, my body wasn’t feeling so cute. I needed something that made me feel comfortable, feminine, and flirty. Nothing does that better than a maxi dress (particularly this Blue Sleeveless Wrap Maternity/Nursing Maxi Dress). Cinched in the perfect spot right above the belly for a flattering shape (or as flattering as a waddling preggo can be, that is…), I enjoyed the comfort and flexibility that this ultra flattering Maternity maxi dress gave me. I’m obsessed with the sash tie in the back that allows me to tighten or loosen when necessary – and all of us pregnancy-savvy mamas know, it’s ALL about options.
The V-neckline is tasteful and very flattering, even on the most unflattering of days. Believe me, in this final stretch of the pregnancy, feeling cute in the third trimester has not been part of my repertoire. But as long as you throw a lovely and comfortable maxi dress my way, I can at least fake it ’til I make it, so to speak. It may not take away the carpal tunnel or the swollen tootsies, but it sure takes my mind off it.

And now it’s time to celebrate the tiny miracle filling up this big ol’ belly that keeps bumping into things. Ladies in your third trimester – don’t be afraid to sass it up, even if your body tells you otherwise. It feels great to put on a pretty and comfy dress, throw on a glossy lip, smoke out your peepers, and do something with that hair that is quite accustomed to the quintessential messy mom bun. I finally decided to take it out of its misery, chop it off, and add some purple/lavender ombre love.
Just what the doctor ordered.
Embrace that gorgeous belly of yours, sassy mamas! Although you’re almost at the finish line, it doesn’t mean we need to give up from belly up. Show some of those pearly whites (I’ve been known to smile without teeth lately, and I honestly don’t know why), rub that sweet baby belly of yours, and do you. I finally lightened and brightened things up a bit, and it has already made a world of difference. It took me 35 weeks to get here, but I can actually say I’m starting to actually feel cute in the third trimester. Miracles do happen! (And like I said… fake it, ’til you make it)…
If you don’t feel cute right now Mamas, sass it up anyway,
