#5faves :: My 5 Fave Things to do with my 5 Year Old
Well, hello there! This is my first official #5faves linkup that I am co-hosting with one of our absolute faves, The Koala Mom. I am beyond excited as this mama has an onslaught of favourites that I am thrilled to share with all of you!
Let me start off by introducing myself. I’m DeBalino of babyStylista. I’m a stylist by day, and a blogger by night. But my real job through and through is being the proud mama 24/7 to this Little Mama.
She’s 5. She’s fab. And she’s got a whole lot going on. It’s my job to enjoy every minute of it with her. Here are some of my faves…
#5faves :: My 5 Fave Things to do with my 5 Year Old
1:: GROCERY SHOPPING
Once upon a time, grocery shopping (or anything shopping, for that matter) meant I shlepped this micro-sized Little Mama and her 10lb diaper bag around while pushing her stroller AND a grocery cart around. As far as I remember I only have 2 arms, and neither of them are very strong. Now, with my 5 year old, she can walk around herself, help me pick out the best produce (still a work in progress, but she’s got great intention), and sometimes, she may even score her own grocery cart. Ahhh – shopping with a 5 year old has never been so… simple.
2:: TEA PARTIES
Little Mama LOVES spending quality time doing mama’s personal faves. Going for tea is one of them. But now that my mini talks a mile-a-minute, we actually have something fun to converse about of a cup of warm goodness. Of course, she has to settle for steamed milk and pretend cream – but that doesn’t make any difference to me. I still get my tea and great company, and she gets a fancy tea tray and a macaron. Win win for all.
Of course, there’s always a trade off the moment we get home. She drinks pretend tea in mommy’s world, so it’s only fair that I do the same in hers.
3:: GETTING PAMPERED
Spa day is wonderful with my gal friends. But now that I don’t have to worry about a restless toddler or a hungry baby, my little one can be an amazing pamper-partner too. Whether it’s a simple hair trim, or a tootsie rub, Little Mama enjoys just being next to her mommy, if only to see me smiling from ear to ear with my feet up and my eyes closed. Seeing her do the same is just as rewarding. <*Sigh>
Sometimes, we even book at-home spa-cations where Little Mama takes the reigns on all services. The end result may end up a little on the err… sloppy side, but there’s always a proud moment of accomplishment for my incredibly ambitious service provider.
This is definitely top of my list of things to do with my 5 year old. Not surprising.
4:: TAKING A STROLL
Walking has become an integral part of our everyday. In the not-so-distant past, we always knew it was a great idea – but we never made time for it. Now that I have a stroller-free walking partner, we can do something that’s both good for our health and good for our soul (or should I say “sole”… har har. I kill me!!). What always makes our walks so interesting is what we choose to make of our walks. Sometimes, we skip around the neighbourhood holding hands and singing songs we both know (which is pretty much limited to Manamana from Sesame Street, or anything Meghan Trainor). Basically, we’re in our own world, and we’re having a grand ol’ time.
#5:: ENJOYING TREATS WITH OUR FAVE GUY
I’ve never been much of a sweet tooth kinda gal, but I married into a family that is. And I am obviously outnumbered. The days have been scorching hot (no complaints here), so it’s a no-brainer that we often make our way to our fave ice cream parlour. Little Mama gets her dose of dairy, Big Daddy gets his dose of sugar, and I get a huge dose of lovin’ from my favorite people. Definitely a reason to jump for joy.
Speaking of indulgences, thank you for sharing in mine. I know I have a ton more favorite things to do with my 5 year old, but these are definitely top of mind. Be sure to visit our loveliness and co-host of 5faves at The Koala Mom for her fab list of #5faves this week!
