With back to school fever in full effect, it’s time to think about giving my little preschooler the big talk. I have always been concerned about her level of confidence especially in a group setting among peers. I have a year to go before worrying about Kindergarten, however, confidence is key at any point in life, and teaching her the ropes in this arena is definitely a work in progress.
The one thing I am adamant about, however, is self awareness and teaching my little 4 year old that she is capable and worthy. She is capable of having a choice. She is capable of making a difference. She is capable of giving love, and more than worthy of receiving it. She is capable of anything she puts her mind into. She is capable of playing with dolls as much as playing with trucks. She is capable of being exactly who she is with no regrets.
She. Is. Capable.
Moreover, she is empowered to be as much a superhero in her tiny 4 year old capable body – in her actions, her choices, and her words – as any superhero she has seen on the big screen. And she can even do this in her Clark Kent specs, something even Superman couldn’t do while incognito. Bravo, Super Preschooler, bravo!
Believe it or not, Little Mama and I spend a lot of time playing – the old fashioned way. We dress up (of course!), we dress down, we do whatever we put our minds to, as we enter the amazing world of pretend. One of our favorite pastimes is pretending to help someone who is in need of help. Whether her Baby Elsa needs a haircut, Elmo needs to be fed, Belle needs help finding Beast, or Princess Jasmine needs to figure out the best way to fly that carpet without Aladdin – we love to pretend we are the ones who save the day.
When we had the pleasure of meeting the creator of Creative Capes™, it was like we discovered the missing piece of our pretend puzzle. We found the perfect superhero ensemble that was as much super stylish as it was super functional. We were drawn to all the colors of the rainbow that adorned the show booth, but what truly caught our spidey senses was the personalized initial at the back of each of the custom made capes.
Little Mama proudly sports her initial (a namesake of which whom she shares with her Grammy, the one person she would save any day of the calendar year), as she climbs walls to get to the castle in the distance. Because apparently most acts of heroism happens in castles, according to our little hero in blue.
This little superhero is ready to embark on a wonderful opportunity to save the day. She slips on her double-sided satin cape attached via velcro for safety and convenience (who’s the hero now??), as well as her coordinating mask, belt and wrist cuffs and immediately transforms from school girl to super girl!
These capes are available in a variety of color combinations, of which would normally be a tough choice for any superboy or super girl – but for my little blue-lovin’ hero (that’s ma girl!) – it was no question. And yes – I am aware she is wearing her cuffs in a more… unique way – but the beauty about being your own superhero, is that you pretty much have free reign to wear your accessories the way you see fit. After all, It’s your initial… so it’s your prerogative.
While these fabulous capes look and feel good, the designer, Holly Hagen’s main inspiration behind the cape is to motivate children to be empowered within the scope of their own imagination.
Creative Capes™ provide your little one hours and hours of imaginative play and an incentive to go outside and get some exercise. Empower your child, build their self esteem, develop their self confidence. Let them become their own superhero to save the day. These handmade high quality capes are handmade in the USA. They are the ideal gift for your hero teaching them to be brave, be proud and be strong! Creative Capes™… helping each child “find the hero within.”
The last few months have been a series of rough patches for our little family (more on that in posts to come…), but the real hero in our family is the little girl that singlehandedly turned the impossible into possible. When things were at its darkest and most challenging, my little superhero found a way, simply by being her wonderful self, to bring joy in our most turbulent times. To me, that is a true superhero.
But before we get to our happily ever after, it would behoove us all to spread some of that empowerment around and give our wonderful readers and friends a chance to empower their little superheros.

To answer your question, I encourage my kids to make their own choices (except when it comes to safety) and problem solve situations. Even if the end result isn’t what I would want for them. Reality is, they have to when I’m gone!
