Today, marks 2 years since I met my son William (Billy), moments before he died in my arms. I think of him often, along with my four other babies who I lost only weeks before their due dates.
Sadly, as expected… I am not the only one yearning for what could have been.
I have learned to move on, mostly because I have a little girl whose well-being depends solely on my moving on. She is a big part of my everyday life, and as it turns out, she gives me life too. Even through my darkest moments.
Part of our moving on, is changing scenery – both cities and countries. We take a boat, a plane, and for the first time – a train to get to our next stop, which, for the most part, is unknown. We take our work with us, and we leave our home, our reminders, and our sorrow behind – even if it means we have to bring a little bit of that sadness along for the ride…
In our travels we encounter so many new experiences, loved ones, and friends that give us hope.
In spite of the pain I continuously feel today and every moment since that tragic day I lost my first son, I know I am blessed. I look at this miracle of a child, my eldest daughter, and love her more and more until my heart bursts.
I believe my son, Billy, and my other babies whom I have loved and lost are shining a light on little LD. She will never be alone. And for that, I am grateful.
Happy Birth day my sweet baby boy. You are forever loved, today and always.

We’ve earned our stripes in making it through these losses – even though there are some days it doesn’t feel that way. How do you deal with grief? Do you reach out? Go in hiding? Run from the reminders? Or do you move on and return back to the everyday?
Taking it one train ride at a time,
