The day has finally come. Today, was LD‘s first day of preschool.
She was so excited she could barely wipe this goofy grin off her sweet little face.
Since today was her first day, we decided to treat ourselves to a rather interesting ensemble. It doesn’t take a professor to know that preschool is all about play, paint, and a good dose of dirt – so I’m not about to let this monkey wear her Sunday best. Normally.
Therefore, for the days succeeding today – she will be sporting her graphic tees, worn out jeans, comfy slip ons (teachers love velcro) – and anything and everything that will not break my heart if more than just a crumb finds its way into its seams. It is all about the three big C’s: Comfort, Convenience (try bringing 20 preschoolers to the potty at the same time – MAJOR kudos to the teachers!), and of course, Cute. Oh, and let’s not forget the most important feature – it best be an outfit that is easy to Clean.
That being said – our outfit of choice for today’s big day was not based on practicality. We decided to forego all the rules of preschool, and focus on what was most important on this milestone day – sticking out. And boy, did this little preschool school-girl do just that. At the very least, she won’t be easily forgotten.
Flexibility is also quite important, when it comes to my new little preschooler, as walls were destined to be climbed, and other classes had to be checked out (as discretely as possible, of course).
“Be sure to listen to your teacher and remember to tell her if there’s anything you need. And always say Please, okay?” was my only request. Apparently, I lost her at “listen”…
At the end of the day, after all the excitement was said and done – our little preschooler ran right back into the arms of the very person who wasn’t exactly ready to let her go in the first place….
She certainly survived (and loved it). The question remains – did I?
Let’s just say – there was a reason why I wore sunnies today…
