Gearing up for dance class always leaves us asking ourselves the same two questions: Did we get enough rest the night before? And… what to wear?
When we had our dose of Funky Legs in the posts of yore, we could barely wait our turn to give these beauties a test run. You can imagine our delight upon receiving the beautifully packaged Neon Pink Tutu and the Star Tights in Ocean Green all the way from Israel!
We were jumping up and down with glee all the way to the ballet studio, and of course someone decided to make a pit stop in front of the mirror…
Apparently, this same someone was more than happy to evade any policy in place, with regards to dress code.
After all – when you’ve got the right moves – color choice is all relative, isn’t it? Neon pink, ocean green, and black – no matter what color you fancy, this little ballerina was a princess in her own right, and in this sea of pastel she embraced the opportunity to stick out like a sore funky thumb.
Seeing as it went so well in class, the funky princess decided to rock it out on the streets.
This collection, made of organic materials, is versatile in its ability to function as a dance accessory while dressing up an everyday look. The one-size-fits-all Tutu is made of 100% tulle with an adjustable elastic waist and button fastening, which LD thoroughly enjoyed (as did I!). Unlike most of the tutus in the market these days (including the DIY projects that I’ve managed to put together on a whim), the Funky Legs tutus are less “delicate” and flimsy, and has a more ideal stiff-yet-soft feel to it. This allowed us to raise the skirt, much like the classic ballerina hidden in LD‘s beloved music box. Here’s a tip to achieve this look: we added an extra layer underneath with rufflebutt rompers to lift up the skirt, creating height and dimension. We are happy to report that with this versatility, we will most likely have this piece in her closet for years to come.
We are in love with the other colors as well, and are quite prepared to fulfill our tutu repertoire accordingly.
The tights (sizes from 6 months – 7 years), made of cotton, polymid, and lycra, allow for comfortable, extended wear – which is more than any toddler could ask for. The prints, and creative use of color and shapes is an added touch which always appeals to the quintessential mini-fashionista. I was nervous at first, as LD has been known to rip off her socks the second they touch her toes, and I braced myself for some resistance. But unlike the “everyday” tights – she actually insisted on wearing her new Funky Legs tights the whole day, even after dance class, and through her nap – which was a rather welcomed change of pace as seen here during the last leg of our adventure.
At the end of the day – the Rocker Princess could not get enough of her Funky Legs ensemble and caused quite a stir around the neighborhood. We definitely give this uber cool and ultra funky collection 2 chubby thumbs up!
