As many of you already know – LD has maintained the status of Mini Jet Setter for most of her toddler years. So living out of a suitcase for the last month during our bi-coastal design tour, wasn’t a foreign concept to any of us. What was foreign however, was the biting cold that greeted our warm-blooded, Southern Cali (aka: spoiled) little bodies day after day as we endured the last few weeks of the winter season. Our morning walks were immediately replaced with quick drive-thru trips to the local Timmys for some hot cocoa, and our nightly routine of taking in a dose of evening air, eventually became nights spent under the heaviest down comforter we could get our hands on while sitting in front of the fire (or manning the house thermostat).
We were at the brink of full hibernation… until we bumped into 7 A.M.® Enfant at the ENK Children’s Club Trade Show, that is. While visiting the Big Apple attending Kid’s Fashion Week, we had the privilege of meeting the founder of this incredible babies and parenting accessories line – Rebecca Campora, a French designer who later brought her talents (and her family) to New York. As a mother herself, she understands the necessity of good quality accessories for baby and mama (and daddy) without neglecting functionality, practicality, and convenience. And as a designer originally from Paris, there is no doubt, innovation and style are a focal point of each and every product in her line.
Even some familiar faces see the value in the 7 A.M.® Enfant Foot muffs for their little ones:
And I see what all the hoopla is about! We literally did a double take at the sight of her “Pookie Poncho” which acts as a cover for the stroller, car seat, and get this… the baby carrier. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor after LD gave it a test run.
Like a little Joey, LD was tucked nice and cozy in the cocoon that surrounded her exposing nothing more than her squishy little face .
So we decided to challenge ourselves to face the last days of winter in the big city centers following our trip to New York. 17 days, to be exact. That being, chilly Detroit, fab-but-frozen Toronto, and rainy Vancouver. And this is what we experienced:
Detroit Riverfront: Minus 35 Degree Celsius cold that made our bones quiver. Our resident photographer, Big Daddy, could barely keep the shot still as he was trembling up a storm. My bell cloche was ready to blow away across the border, and I eventually could not feel my toes. And then… there was LD. Happy as … well… a clam. All tucked away, warm as can be, without a care in the world. She wasn’t only content, she was completely oblivious to the air that almost froze her parents to death. She maintained her composure keeping her cloche and oversized shades in place, unlike her frazzled mother who had not a warm bone in her body – other than her hands which were tucked into the amazing warMMuffs, also from 7 A.M.® Enfant. These warMMuffs are cleverly attached to the stroller handle via velcro for easy on and off versatility – once again… an ingenius concept brought on by a parent who can appreciate the necessity of easily removable gloves for quick parenting dilemmas.
Downtown Toronto: Not as cold, but definitely lightyears away from warm. I managed to keep my headgear tightly wrapped around my head, meanwhile, LD continued her Pookie Poncho adventures of her own. As chilly as it was, we had a very cozy toddler who was far too busy happily maintaining her body temp, meanwhile, her caregivers were far too cold to even enjoy the breathtaking view. With the exception of my uber warm digits, that is – thanks to our super slick and shiny WarMMuffs. It was no surprise, Canadian passerbys were green (or should I say, icey blue) with envy:
Rainy Vancouver: We were fortunate to have missed the downpour, but with the shiny shell exterior of the warMMuffs, we were ready for anything. Once again, we welcomed an onslaught of compliments and inquiries about the the warMMuffs and foot muff that seemed to be a sight for sore eyes in a city that has accepted it’s rainy fate. And if I may say so myself, even all bundled up, we maintained our cute while enjoying a little cozy.
LD‘s noggin and fingers were kept nice and toasty with the Polar Hat 200 and matching Polar Mittens 200 in bordeaux. Lined with faux fur shearling, this stylish hat was all LD needed as she peeked out of the pookie poncho, while the rest of her squiggly body was kept warm underneath. Again, we had a happy, snuggly monkey while the other half of us was shivering in our suede tasseled boots. And you know me – I am never one to deny an opportunity to coordinate with the little one. So you can imagine my delight as I slipped my shivering hands into the matching bordeaux WarMMuffs attached conveniently to the stroller handles.
My only complaint? Big Daddy and I surrendered to a quick challenge of rock-paper-scissors determining who among us would be the lucky one to push the stroller with the fabulous matching warMMuffs. We’re still fighting over them as I write this.
Here are the warMMuffs in action, along with the matching Polar Igloo foot muff, as narrated by the designer herself.
All in all, the pookie poncho served its purpose and then some, with full coverage, easy assembly (zip, snap, and wrap), and overall versatility. After roaming around the chilly cosmo cities, we easily transferred the poncho to LD‘s carseat keeping her nice and cozy as she welcomed an afternoon nap. If only I knew of this lifesaving concept during my days of babywearing. Note to self – keep this in mind for baby numero 2.
What we love is how the smaller hood attaches with snaps to the back of the cover to protect the wee ones facing inward or outward. Meanwhile, the larger hood zips onto the cover, for use on the stroller or car-seat, covering your monkey’s little face. So not only is the Pookie Poncho, a stylish and functional must-have for all parents, it also grows with your child. We’re aiming at utilizing this for at least another 2 – 3 winters to come! Watch out New York, this coming fall/winter – we’re ready for you!
