Nicole Scherzinger rocks it,
Gwen Stefani rarely leaves home without it:
Even Harajuku Mama over here makes you want to run out and get one for yourself…
What am I talking about, you ask?
The Houndstooth Coat, of course. Yes. I absolutely said it. Houndstooth.
It’s back with a vengeance, and MY little mama nearly fell over at the risk of breaking her own front tooth when her Godmommy surprised her with the most delightful little gift: Her very own Houndstooth faux fur swing coat!
…in CHOCOLATE BROWN no less!!! The perfect fit, this Nannette for girls coat is made to warm up our little toddlers from collar to waist with it’s shell lining and faux fur exterior. The fun fact about this fabulous coat is that it falls under any fashionista’s favorite category – Vintage. Yes, second hand, VINTAGE.
You want the look? Easy. Vintage isn’t the easiest find however, so this is where your styling peepers and innate sense of creativity have to do some work. Scour your local vintage shops, schedule a spree at your little one’s older cousin’s hand-me-down closet, dig through your mom’s box of “never-give-away” old clothes (that is of course, only made available for your own daughter or little man). There you will find… the best finds. Coats, jackets, vests, from the days of yore that no one else will have. Houndstooth? Maybe not. But that is just one of the trillions of examples of reoccurring patterns that will pop out of no where and surprise the fashion daylights outta you! Personally, we have fun browsing through Zulily.com where they stay true to their promise of daily deals for parents, babies, and kids.
So how did we go about completing this look? It’s all about the equally fabulous accoutrements.
For instance, one needs an equally vintage-esque hat. What better than MY Women’s Goorin Brothers Hooty Cloche hat that I can never live without?
Look familiar? We love the adorable owl accessory on the hand washable (yay!) cloche that makes quite the statement on its own. If you don’t have a Goorin bros. hat shop in your city, Amazon.com has many of the styles available at your fingertips.
However, this particular cloche is only available in women’s sizes, but don’t fret. This is merely where your creativity is put to the test. As Zara kids (who is known to carry vintage-inspired hats for tots) is not easily accessible to us – much too our shopping chagrin, I just utilized what I had on hand. I simply cinched a section in the back, clipped and tucked to make it fit little mama’s cute little noggin, and voila! It’s mini-me-friendly!
Then, the oversized shades of course.
DG Fashion sunglasses for kids are just fine for our little mamas. What business do toddlers have sporting designer glasses that even a thirty-something mother can barely keep track of herself? I love these because they are also made readily available at Amazon.com and cheap as can be, yet appears to give the wonderful impression that little mama is wearing designer specs. Again, why spend $200+ on a pair of sunglasses that really only last as long as a toddler can tolerate them on her face? That being, 10 seconds, tops.
But she sure looks cute – so DG Fashion sunglasses it is! It IS mommy and daddy‘s initials after all! 🙂
I’m not certain what was most exciting about receiving this fabulous find from Godmom. Was it the Houndstooth? Was it the fauxfur? Was it the fact that I knew in my heart of hearts, that no one else in close proximity would have the same jacket? Or was it the fact that we finally found the perfect match to LD‘s beloved Joe Fresh Fur pompom boots that she has been aching to wear all winter?:
I’d say, a beautiful mix of all of the above.
In fact, we were thrilled to put together a look that may not be exactly how Nicole or Gwen or the pretty Harajuku lady wore it, but tweaked in such as way that LD would have liked it. And this is what we came up with:
With the added fur collar from Zara, it’s the perfect combination of functional and fabulous. LD sure made quite a statement in the city today:
And if you’re wondering if this was a two chubby thumbs up for our little In-house fashionista, why don’t we just ask her:
In fact, she embraced it with open arms.
Happy Hunting! Houndstooth or not, be sure to send us photos of some of your fabulous vintage finds! We’ll be sure to share with you more of ours!
Stylishly yours,
db
