Little Mama and I have been living out of a suitcase for the last little while – for work, for play, and for some relaxation. The one thing this crazy pair of jet setters have learned to do rather well these last couple of months, is jump at unique opportunities to save money. We have become quite the seasoned travelistas incorporating some clever travel hacks (who would have thought throwing some over-used under-washed denim in the hotel freezer would do some magic?), spending only when necessary, and limiting the extraneous expenses that leave us feeling just a little… spent.

The one thing, however, that does not warrant savvy-skills-in-savings, is life experience. We don’t let distance, borders, and heck, even vast waters (we are island girls, after all) stop us from catching the first flight (or boat) as we jump on the next opportunity to explore. LD‘s Grandma always says “You worked hard for your money, spend it on life experience”, and I can’t help but agree. We may take short cuts elsewhere (I mean, do I REALLY need that 5th Coach purse in a different shade? Or better yet, do I REALLY need to buy LD ANOTHER pack of new crayons when she has a perfectly functional and usable shoebox of crayons, albeit half of them torn and flattened – but still in working condition?) – but we try not to be paralyzed by fear of losing money when it comes to road trips, or visits to the East Coast, or day boat rides to the other side of the border. It’s important for our family to take time out to create memories.
